Vans Are My New Love Language

I have a pretty casual life.  I'm a stay at home Mom, wife and professional cancer patient.  I live in the PNW where you can pretty much get away wearing anything anywhere.  The home of Portlandia.  When I watch that show it feels more like a documentary.  So maybe the next phrase won't make sense,  but I was on the hunt for fancy sneakers.  I don't even know really what to call them, tennis shoes, kicks?  Basically I live in Nikes, but was looking for a "dress up tennis shoe."

I usually go up a size to accommodate Bertha.  But, after my compression stocking I am looking for shoes that for sure can either stretch or come in a wide.  I'm at the age where I am about to fall into a different age category as well.  The first age category to go was the 18-24, now I'm hanging on for dear life in the 25-34 category, but in my mind I am still 21.  I will forever be 21, however my body keeps telling me otherwise.

So long story short, my mentally 21 year old self bought some Vans a while back.  Do I own a skateboard?  No.  Do I even know how to skateboard?  No.  Do I think I know how to?  Of course!  I'm that person watching the Olympics saying "well yeah if I really tried I could totally speed skate."

My husband has always worn Vans and loves them, so I tried the Old Skool style and also fell in love.  They are surprisingly comfortable and go with everything it seems.  Jeans, a short dress, stretch pants, you name it I can rock it wearing Vans.  In the same week both of my kids had major growth spurts and needed new shoes.  We're that family that has matching Christmas PJ's, so I thought why not have matching shoes?

I guess it's time to introduce Bertha, my previous post might make a little more sense.  Some women name their boobs, I name my legs.  My skinny "normal" leg is Tiffany who I imagine would be a cheerleader and a runner.  And then there is my lymphedema leg Bertha, who bakes likes science.  Ok I know that is so stereotypical, but it's makes me laugh and makes other people feel awkward.  I mean they named a golf club "Big Bertha" so really I'm just following suit.  Bertha has been with me since 2007 and isn't going away anytime soon, so it was only proper she be named.  We have a love hate relationship, but in the end she is a big part of my life and according to my husband "his favorite leg in the world."  Yes you can "awwww" now.  And yes I hit the jackpot with him.  XOXO-Allie

Summer Sandals- Save and Splurge

Summer can be dreaded for Lymphies, the heat on our limbs can cause them to swell even more.  Add to that bearing our compression in swimsuits and sandals, it can be emotionally difficult as well.  I hope my post will alleviate some of the concern.  I've collected some summer sandals that will fit your lymphie leg (all the sandals listed come in wide widths or will most likely fit people with LE) For each style I've included a "Save" option and "Splurge."  With shoes I like to purchase some fun trends and not spend a lot, but then there are some shoes I know will last and I will get a lot of use from, I am willing to spend a little more on these.  You may think "Allie it's only March, summer is months away!?"  I've noticed that a lot of the seasonal items are out of stock by the time it's the actual season to shop for, so I have learned to grab an item if I really love it, because chances are it will be gone next time I shop.  I hope yo
