She has been in the hospital or a care facility since Feb...  moreHello Lymphedema Community. I'm in need of serious help for my friend. She has retained about 125 lbs of fluid from her waist down in the past 8 months and doctors have not been able to help her. She has been in the hospital or a care facility since Feb of this year. Doctors are telling her there is nothing more that can be done. She has heart issues and they have used extreme amounts of Lasix in the past 2 weeks to remove fluid and it hasn't worked. Any suggestions about who to see or what to do?

      Deleted Member What country is she in? If the US, what part of the country? There are a few specialists that she could see. If she has lymphedema, lasix isn't likely to help substantially because the fluid retained is protein rich.

      Janie Moore Jane is in Columbus, OH. Jane has had a lymphedema therapist who used massage. She also has the pneumatic pumps and has gone through the wrapping process. Nothing has helped. She is being moved to an acute care facility today. All comments gratefully...  moreJane is in Columbus, OH. Jane has had a lymphedema therapist who used massage.       Staff Certified Lymphedema Therapist This could be lipedema and not true lymphedema. Take a look at the link posted today.

It is possible that she needs treatment or surgery beyond what is provided by a therapist and she certainly needs someone who understands the physiology of the entire body rather than a straight OT or PT. With her disease progression, I wouldn't take any treatment options or locations off the table. If this doesn't turn around, her life is at risk.
